Stan Hywet is cherished by Akron Garden Club as the home of its founder and the site of the club’s general membership meetings, held in the Carriage House Auditorium.
The grounds of Stan Hywet have received more than $250,000 in support from the club over the past 30 plus years.
The club funded restoration of the English Garden and its perimeter, established a wildflower preserve in the Dell, provided irrigation and nomenclature systems, enabled tree removal, underwrote a special exhibition of historical flowerpots and garden containers, replaced statues and funded an endowment. For more than 60 years, club members have maintained the English Garden, presently volunteering a dozen or more hours weekly during May through October. In 1991, The Akron Garden Club inspired and organized a summer gala for Stan Hywet’s 75 th anniversary, a tradition which has been continued by supporters of the estate, raising more than $3 million to date.
